Permanent Make-up

Meet Reanne, our SPMU Artist here at RJ Vu. She started her PMU Journey back in 2020. (yes, just as the whole industry shut down) learning eyebrow pigmentation. Straight away, she knew she absolutely loved it and got the itch to keep learning and growing. Of course, lockdown happened and put a stop to all of that, but she then went on to welcome her daughter to the world and took some time off of her career to be with her family.

Fast forward, she is back working at RJ Vu Nails and Beauty, and has since expanded her training in SPMU to include Lip Blush and Eyeliner/Eyelash Enhancement.

She loves everything about PMU, but mainly how much it restores confidence in those who have lost it.

What is PMU?

Believe it or not. PMU has been around since the early 90's. It certainly wasn't what it is now, and was nowhere near as popular, but people have been craving makeup that lasts for a very long time. So. what actually is it?! "Semi-permanent" or "Permanent makeup", also known as "cosmetic tattooing", is the practice of tattooing pigment into the epidermis (the layer of skin closest to the skin surface) to create an enhanced version of a feature. The main areas we see in Western society are the brows, eyes, and lips.

There are 2 types of pigment that you'll come across in PMU.

Organic or 'natural' pigments, and inorganic 'manmade pigments.

Organic pigments are made of fruit or vegetable based dye, which are rich in colour and offer more of a variation in tone of pigment Inorganic ink consists of iron oxide. Oxides help with opacity of pigment, meaning they create a solid colour, however they can change in tone over time because of the high iron content.

How long does it last? PMU generally lasts from 12-24 months -so while it has the umbrella term of 'permanent, it requires top ups and colour boosts to allow for skin movement and colour/shape changes. The term wake up with makeup is the perfect way to round off PMU. It saves time, allows you to have the 'perfect' makeup for you, and gives you the confidence to wake up and walk out the door feeling your best.

Check out some of her incredible work.
